Hello, Sea Hawkers - Mat-Su Sea Hawker Play 60 was a hugh success. We hosted over 300 kids - For those of you who did not come, you really missed out on what was probably our FINEST display of community effort. You can see the story at: http://www.frontiersman.com/articles/2011/07/19/local_news/doc4e227662b05de854781454.txt While the story is very flattering to our organization, I want to go on record and make sure certain people get the credit they deserve for helping make this event happen. Without the efforts and contributions of these specific people and organizations, the Sea Hawker Play 60 event would not have been the success it was - My special thanks to United Way of Mat-Su - Stephanie Allen, Cherie LeBlanc-Shue, and Ashley. These folks not only donated financially to help sponsor costs, but also contributed a significant mount of personal time helping with coordinating event needs and with volunteering directly on event day. United Way and the Mat-Su community as a whole should be very proud of these folks. Another special thanks goes out to Community Sports, Inc. Gretchen Geist was a dynamo - In my family's darkest hour, she single-handedly took control of making sure many of our organizations needs were accomplished. She donated financially to the event costs, and spend countless hours volunteering to prepare the event and to help host and MC the event. The Seattle Seahawks organization and guest personnel were very impressed with Gretchen and expressed a lot of admiration for her efforts on our behalf. A HUGE thank you to Mat-Su Health Foundation for approving a very significant financial grant, which helped cover much of the event day activities, prizes, food, and venue rental. Last but not least - a thank you from Peggy and I. We truly love being Sea Hawkers - you make it such a great community organization. GO SEAHAWKS!!
